Purple Salsify, or Tragopogon porrifolius, is considered a common weed around the globe. This has not always been the case as every part of the plant is edible.
The purple flowers can be spotted growing by the side of the road. Their fluffy seed heads resemble those of dandelions, to which they are related. Unlike dandelions their seed heads are quite large, around 10cm in diameter, and they are a majestic gold colour.
